The 79th meeting of the Committee for the Protection of the Marine Environment-MEPC, one of the most important committees of the International Maritime Sample, began on Sunday December 12, 2022. At the meeting held in April 2018, the updated draft of the “First IMO Strategy for reducing greenhouse gas emissions from ships”, which was accepted at the MEPC 72 meeting, was discussed in about 1.5 days. He wanted to take the carbonization measures completely where the countries are.
This strategic document will re-present the measures and applications to be applied to maritime transport, focusing on the conditions of the day and future technologies. Considering the timeline, it is proposed that the short-term projects should be completed between the years 2018-2023, and if not completed, they should be completed immediately after 2023.
On the other hand, it was suggested to revise the duration of medium- and long-term measures and applications, in this context, medium-term measures should be implemented between Dec 2023-2030, and long-term measures should start to be implemented after 2030. Some medium- and long-term measures may need to be started working before 2023

In the study, the targets were determined according to the years 2030-2040 and 2050. The goals have generally been aimed at reducing emission rates faster. For example, within the scope of the “IMO Green Corridor Program”, it was proposed to create a certain number of [xx] green corridors, to cover all the main trade routes in 2035, and to turn these green corridors into completely carbon-free routes in 2040. We assess that this issue is quite important. Work will need to be done on how it can be created
It has been proposed to address safety, environmental and seafarer training issues related to the construction/conversion and operation of ships using alternative fuels by 2028. It should allow the research, development and use of fuels, technologies and infrastructure for zero-emission maritime transport on a Well-To-Wake basis to allow all states to access strategic and sustainable development opportunities in these areas
