The Maritime Sectoral Center of Excellence is exploring collaboration methods with industry stakeholders as part of the named as ‘’Improving the Quality of Vocational and Technical Education Project.’’
The goal of the project is to enhance the quality of vocational and technical education by:
- Training teachers and administrators,
- Improving learning environments,
- Making vocational and technical education an appealing option for students,
- Establishing Sectoral Excellence Centers to foster collaboration between schools, social partners, and the private sector, thereby improving knowledge, skills, and competencies in alignment with EQARF and EQAVET standards.
In line with these objectives, a total of 14 Sectoral Center of Excellence (SCEs) covering 25 vocational fields have been established and are actively operational. One of these centers focuses on the maritime sector.
The visit to the Turkish Shipowners’ Association was conducted with this purpose in mind. The Maritime Sectoral Center of Excellence is located at Pendik Barbaros Hayrettin Paşa Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School and operates from this institution.
During the discussions, the Turkish Shipowners’ Association expressed its full commitment to supporting the sectoral training of teachers. Suggestions included establishing a sectoral advisory board, providing hands-on training by allowing teachers to board ships during the summer to reinforce their skills, and preparing a specialized training program for these teachers at Piri Reis University’s Continuing Education Application and Research Center.
At the end of the meeting, it was decided to hold a follow-up meeting.
