

The comprehensive report has addressed all issues related to maritime security affecting Seatrade in 2022.
Many issues in maritime security that affect seatrade globally now and in the future are discussed in the report. The report is studied by a highly experienced expert, Mr. Faruk Dogan (Ret. Navy Captain, who worked maritime security posts in his career). Faruk is also Turkish Shipowners’ Association’s consultant for subjects over the issue.
The report includes 133 pages and ist updated pages in the last part. 72 source documents were used in the report.

When we look through the main seatrade routes of seas and oceans globally;
- Civil war and instability in Syria and Libya in the Mediterranean,
- The Sudan and Yemen civil wars in the Red Sea,
- Instability, conflict and organized crime in Somalia and the Horn of Africa Countries in addition to the Yemeni conflicts in the Gulf of Aden, the Sea of Oman, and the Western Indian Ocean,
- The threats and risks arising from Iran in the Persian Gulf,
- According to the report, the threat arising from various rebellions, separatist activities, terrorism, internal conflicts, and organized crimes in 19 countries located on the coast of the Gulf of Guinea and the countries of the Sahel Region to the north,
- In the Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico, criminal cartels originating from Mexico, Colombia, and Venezuela operate on the territory of the countries of the region and overseas,
- The long-term state of tension between the regional countries and the People’s Republic of China in the South and East China Seas on issues of sovereignty rights and maritime jurisdictions are considered risk zones that seatrade should carefully monitor and implement measures to ensure maritime security.
Together with the above, the report, directly and indirectly, examined the effects of Terrorism at Sea, Pricay and Armed Robbery, Illegal Drug Trafficking, , Illegal Arms Trafficking, Illegal, Uncontrolled and Irregular Migration, Human Trafficking, Illegal, Unreported and Irregular Fishing, Cyber Threats to Shipping and Climate change, as well as the effects of environmental and marine pollution on maritime security.
